I have spent the last few weeks trying to convince a couple of partners in a business that they do not need to make it complicated to make it successful. I am referring to multiple points in the business including presentations and marketing. The thinking in some circles is that if you want to be perceived as a successful business you need to have the layers of complexity that the large corporations have. To me this is defeating the greatest principles of small business.
Putting your product or service out there in a simple, easy and friendly format will in many cases win you more fans than trying to look bigger than you are. I think it is an ego thing where we think we need to feel important, when the key is to make your clients or customers feel important.
By being easy to work with and having a business format that adapts to change it increases the chance of success. Sometimes simple wins!
